Is your
home a haven, or a hazard?
If your
eyesight, balance or mobility are not as they used to be, everyday objects can
cause problems. Here are some of the common culprits:
 |
Loose
rugs, uneven carpets – easy to trip over |
 |
Steps
– do you need a handrail? |
 |
Trailing
wires – you may catch your toes |
 |
Water
on kitchen or bathroom floors – danger of slipping |
 |
Pets
– be aware of where they are when you are walking |
 |
Oven
– be careful if you have difficulty bending down |
Obviously,
these are not the only hazards in the home, so please do take a look round to
check for potential dangers. Sometimes, changing the way in which you approach
every day activities can make them much safer.
If you are
concerned, an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist may be able to advise
you on the safest solutions.
